Description

Materials

We use High-End Bearing Steel, commonly using high-purity steels refined by Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) or Electro-Slag Remelting (ESR) (e.g., M50, M50NiL, CSS-42L, etc.). These materials possess extremely high purity, uniformity, and fatigue strength.

Ceramic Hybrid Technology is also a good option, Increasing adoption of full ceramic bearings (silicon nitride Si₃N₄ rollers + steel rings) or hybrid ceramic bearings (silicon nitride rollers + steel rings). The advantages of silicon nitride rollers include: Lightweight, High Stiffness, Low thermal expansion and corrosion Resistance.

This usually sacrifices some ultimate performance.
Special Liquid Lubrication: In scenarios involving extreme speed, heavy load, but short-duration operation like rocket engine turbopumps, high-performance synthetic oils (e.g., Perfluoropolyether PFPE) are used. The core challenge lies in how to precisely and reliably deliver minimal oil to the friction contact points under ultra-high centrifugal force through special cage design and oil supply systems.

Simultaneously, these bearings require pefection in terms of accuracy class, surface roughness, and ultra-clean cleaning.

 

Application

The ideal application scenarios for cylindrical roller bearings are those requiring support for heavy rotors rotating at very high speeds, while simultaneously needing to isolate axial loads. Main application scenarios include:

Liquid Rocket Engine Turbopumps. This is the most classic and demanding application scenario. Turbopumps operate at extremely high speeds (tens of thousands of revolutions per minute), requiring support for massive impeller and rotor weights while bearing enormous radial force.

Application Method: Typically employs a “bearing pair" configuration. Namely: One set of double-row cylindrical roller bearings:  Specifically designed to withstand huge radial loads and locate the rotor radially. One set of angular contact ball bearings: Specifically designed to withstand axial (thrust) loads and complete the axial positioning of the rotor.
